What are the pros and cons of using open source projects scripts? Secondly, is it advisable to use open source projects that have not been abandoned and are actively supported today?
Oxwall - a platform for creating social networks PHP / MySQL.
It is used for a wide range of projects, from family sites and user social networks, to collaboration tools and solutions for corporate communities.
The problem with this script is that all files are loaded into one directory
ow_userfiles/plugins/base/attachments/*** and stored in one heap.
And as it is currently, I’m not sure it is still being ‘heavily’ supported. Please use at your own risk!

You can try out busy. It is a blockchain-based social network where everyone can earn rewards, as the authors wrote. Haven’t used it myself but judging by the demo, should be a very good choice.
Check Diaspora. It is a non-profit distributed decentralized social network.
Written in Ruby on Rails; the same programming language Talk with Africans is built with. The project was launched in 2010.
In fact, the project consists of interconnected nodes located at different people and organizations. Each node runs on its own copy of the engine, being essentially a separate web server. Participants can create an account on any of these servers, but at the same time they will interact with all other servers.
